For the first ~7ish years of Bitcoin, the prevailing narrative for why altcoins were doomed was that they were test networks. The idea being that Bitcoin would add any functionality that proved valuable and subsume the market share. This was an early form of Bitcoin Maximalism. Thus you can imagine my chagrin when projects like Botanix & Citrea anchor EVM functionality to Bitcoin's PoW without changing Bitcoin and a group of puritanical Bitcoiners lose their minds and claim that developers are trying to turn Bitcoin into Ethereum. 🙄
