Recap of the past 2 weeks in crypto: - $BTC managed to hold the line at $58k after several breakdown attempts, and despite intense MSTR+STRC FUD leading to both asset dumping hard. Peak FUD seems behind us, STRC bounced from $72 to $90, and BTC is around $64k - $LIT has been the strongest coin lately, it properly broke out above $2 after the news that it was the official perp DEX of the Robinhood Chain. - Moderate SOL season with a +25% move on SOLBTC, as well as the ANSEM memecoin pumping from 0 to $400M mcap. FARTCOIN bounced too. $USELESS remains the best looking memecoin - $SYN squeezed 25X from bottom to top after its repositioning as an options protocol - $VVV is bleeding since it was announced that Venice raised $70M but in Venice equity - Memory stocks are getting totally hammered (-30%) and the semis sector is selling off - $MON is bouncing (... for no reason?)

You obviously didn't say it like that, but it's what it comes down to for anyone who can talk freely about it without being afraid of upsetting anyone. What you said is: - that the token exists to hedge out future compute prices => literally no one bought the token with the thesis that its only value was this, and *strictly* this - that the token accrues value through buybacks with every net new subscription => we're talking about $3M worth of buybacks a year for a $1.5bn FDV coin, and the Venice team is completely free to stop these buybacks at any point in time (trust me bro) - that they never said that the token was like equity and that anyone who believed that was stupid But here's the thing, that's not how it works. When a protocol launches a token, the market will tend to automatically assume it's pseudo equity for the project, *especially* when they trust the founder and he's supposed to be super ethical/moral/fair etc. Btw we do now have a crystal clear example of such token with HYPE, meaning it is in fact possible to have a token that accrues almost all value. The fact that the Venice founders said "well here's a token, and it has this X utility" and didn't promise that it was like equity is irrelevant, they *obviously* benefitted from the unsaid assumption by a ton of market participants that VVV was "potentially the asset that would accrue all the value of the protocol". That's one of the huge benefits of launching a token, it's that the token will get inflows from buyers who are valuing it like pseudo equity, but then the team is actually completely free to decide what value will really accrue to it. Given the total asymmetry, the team has a huge incentive to never be transparent about *what the token is and what it's NOT*, and that's what Venice did, and is still doing right now (because they probably don't even know themselves how the value will accrue between token and equity yet.) Yano didn't want to get into an argument with you but his intuition was perfectly correct that Erik took the advantages of having a token without then taking full responsibility. Because at the end of the day a team should either launch a token with the goal of accruing all value to it, or simply shouldn't launch a token at all. But a lot of teams want the double dip in crypto because there's no social stigma around it, we're so used to see tokenholders being rugged all the time that it's 'okay' to launch a token which will trend towards zero. If a team wants to launch a utility token that 'has a very restricted utility and nothing more', then they should be *extremely* unequivocal about it, which was clearly not the case here. This token<>equity debate is literally the whole shtick of the Blockworks Token Transparency Framework, because they fully understand the problem (which Venice perpetuates), like anyone in crypto who isn't in a conflict of interest. Just to be clear, I listen to Empire weekly and I love the podcast, I have zero hostility towards you, Rob.

LMAO the opinion of the lead investor in Venice is even worse for $VVV tokenholders than Erik Voorhees denial statements He basically says that Erik has always been transparent about the fact that $VVV was a memecoin with extra steps and that if tokenholders are not happy about the dual structure, they should sell the token You can't blame the VC for making sure they invest in the thing that actually has value (the equity) though Thanks for playing

"We don't want to sell the token" More like "VCs want to buy equity" You can turn this however you want, and I don't doubt that SOME value will accrue to the token, but there is just an inescapable conflict between equity and token as long as both exist

A few interesting things going on the crypto side, on my checklist for this sunday: 1) the AERO/VELO depeg earlier last year Dromos Labs announced that they'd merge Aero and Velo in a single platform, with Aerodrome having 94.5% of it and Velodrome 5.5%. This was scheduled for Q2 2026 (which is essentially now). However, AERO and VELO are trading very off this mark, which means either the market is being inefficient about it (partially can be excused due to Velo shitty liquidity and problematic in/out - if people expect Aero to actually reprice downwards before the merger), or that the targets are changing. The two are so off right now, that I think a short $AERO long $VELO is actually a good trade. 2) PreStocks SPCX The trade is essentially the same of point 1), but with PreStocks' $SPCX and Variational/TradeXYZ on the other leg, can book a similar gap (actually VELO/AERO is better for expected returns but carries a bit more of uncertainty in terms of duration, caveats etc... since they could still change the ratio or delay the merger). The thing i'll try to understand is if PreStocks' SPCX is just being correctly priced because: SPV fees, layering, risk etc, or if it's just a 300%+ APR for a month, laying there to be collected. 3) $KAIA This is an interesting one, there's a lot of buzz rn between Japan and Korea on stablecoins, especially after JPYC got the greenlight for integration on Line, and actually there's one specific weird blockchain that most of this is related to, the one in the title. I'll take a further look at it, generally "asian blockchain" didn't play out too well aside from short terms but we'll see. 4) Memes in 2026 Bidding memes still in 2026 wasn't very high on my bingo list, especially Solana ones after i repeatedly said "this is my last time i touch onchain stuff on this cursed blockchain", but here I am looking at one once again (bc it's been going NEEaTly) 5) Rates and Stablecoin Protocols This is not for this sunday, but i'm drafting a list. Since rates-wise things are getting quite chaotic ($JP40Y exploding and all cards on the desk for US too) and there's much more uncertainty about how the next 2 years are going to play out, i'll keep a list of stuff that both benefits or get punished should rates move in one or the other direction, this obviously means digging a bit in the stablecoin stack or what's left of it beyond just $SKY and $CRCL. 6) Privacy - too late? Privacy is clearly the third big trend of this inter-cycles / late cycle period: memes, ai, privacy. Now, there are a lot of whipsaw names here (yeah i'm looking at you $RAIL), but it's probably worth to keep some tabs on some of the less looked upon stuff like $NIL that could scam pump, especially given AI and the fact that Kohaku is probably going to accompany us as a looming narrative for another few months. There are probably other names, here i'll be looking a bit at VC backed stuff that raised much more than it's trading at (scouting for a BIO/H type of deal), ideas are welcome. Oh and obviously, Hyperliquid to $69 thanks (and keeping a tab on that cursed wasteland of LIT chart)
