day 2 was technical sessions, jotted down 3 points around - solana as a developer platform - killer vs truthseeking instincts - trading innovations we should be keeping on top of (1) I was surprised to hear almost nothing around zero knowledge proofs or privacy at breakpoint, when it was all the rage a few weeks ago at Devconnect It made more sense when Raj shared the statistic he keeps most on top of: number of startups earning over $100 million revenue per year that launched on solana Where ethereum culture is often more oriented around creating civilization level infrastructure, solana is more narrow on being a good developer platform for builders even their seeker phone, which has around 10k users, is mostly seen as a way for app developers on solana to get immediate feedback before a wider launch we see this in their faster shipping cadence, where the protocol changes every 2-3 months instead of the 1-2 hard forks ethereum does per year . when toly was asked his 10 year vision for solana, he said he can only see 8 weeks into the future 😂 (2) broadly i've seen many founders have 2 wolves in them a. the truthseeking wolf that acknowledges the best solution to a problem, even if from a competitor ethereum best embodies this culture, which is why we keep even our apps open source - we should be open to the best answer, wherever it comes from b. the killer instinct that wants to crush & steal & dominate all competition Solana builders want you to use their product but are more calculative in sharing the sauce that goes into making it. Over time, its worth tracking how solana prevents their community from tearing each other (as we saw recently with jupiter and kamino) & collaborating where it is positive to do so we also saw the killer instinct at play when Raj said he expects 25% of all finance to be on blockchain soon, with solana hopefully capturing 10% of that when the moderator said maybe all 25%, he said its good for solana to have competition so he doesn't want a monopoly 😅 Ethereum builders on the other hand love nerding out over technical details and few things are off the table to discuss openly, so its generally a more comfortable space for truthseekers like myself to ask questions without the other side even considering whether they are giving away a competitive advantage by answering we also saw this difference in the format, where devcon has 25 minute talks letting us go into actual details & ask questions to speakers, while breakpoint talks are only 5-10 minutes with 0 questions allowed. even fireside chats were only 15 minutes long! (3) Finally, there are big things cooking in solana around prop AMMs (h/t to @dankrad for alerting me to them) Instead of just querying prices from the biggest CEX, prop AMMs let any market maker put their own AMM, the interaction b/w all AMMs then determine price this means that solana could become the venue for asset price discovery, which would help it become the chain where assets are issued, discovered and traded another aspect of trading fees that @Sarv_shaktiman mentioned was how creators are able to sustain themselves with a % of trading volume for their coin going to the team with these new primitives of prop AMMs & creators earning from trading fees , we might see a lot more trading activity on solana unless we are able to mount an effective response
