market is testing btc holders excruciating streak of days if you were running btc long with a smaller short basket of alts. this structure was one of the best on the way up. think after 10/10 we saw a large exodus from the space, but mainly alts. much smaller percentage of retail or natives owned btc compared to past cycles. thus, 10/10 didn't impact btc much. institutional players are also much less reactive and move slower, but they control a greater majority of the coins now. the underperformance to metals was probably the nail in the coffin; the digital gold narrative was core to tradfi circles. truth is crypto didn't deliver much but had it good on (political) grace. some capitalized on this grace to launch some of the most lowlife scams both onchain and through centralized venues. the cz-binance scapegoat-ism is ridiculous btw. thematically, for the space to move forward, the only path that feels viable is that of turning legit, cleansing the trash. we are already seeing this getting priced in by the repricing in alts, relative overperformance of 'value' assets (e.g. hype, met) and some early innings of healthier token-team structures like metadao. that's good. short casinos and vc bloated scams, long real apps will keep doing good in my view. there's simply no other way for the industry to reinvent itself as something else than an extraction scheme. I find it unlikely that people will fall for typical vc or dex scams to a great degree again. total altcoin capitalization has entered the euthanasia coaster.
