Aster. I have not posted about Aster for a while because I said I would wait until things settled. BUT Today I felt compelled to share two observations on what is currently my largest position outside of stables. One is bullish and one is bearish. The bullish side begins with Coinbase. I have always studied Coinbase and Coinbase Ventures as a way to read the future. Out of every crypto company in the United States, they have the strongest access to Washington. They rarely place bets on regulatory pathways they know will get blocked. Their lean toward ICOs is a signal. It suggests regulation is moving toward a more permissive environment. If this is true, Binance slowly loses one of its most important advantages, which is the monopoly created by an overly regulated environment. Monad already showed what happens when the field opens & I am sure it hurt. Looser regulation forces Binance to compete in open territory. The clearest opening is the DEX field. Lax rules reduce the structural advantage of a CEX and increase the upside for DEXs. This is where Aster enters the picture. As of today Aster is CZs cleanest and strongest way to compete. If that is true, my bullish case becomes even stronger. Why does Aster end up with an upper hand relative to Coinbase and Hyperliquid. The answer sits in the type of operator CZ is. He and Trumps operate from the same worldview: Money is the deciding force. Any deal that needs to be cut will be cut. Any money that needs to be paid will be paid. Any money up for grabs will be grabbed. They already completed one deal with the pardon. They will complete more. I do not think Hyperliquid has this ability. First, I do not think he operates from a money-above-all worldview. Second, I do not think he has the reach. I also do not think Coinbase has this ability because they are an American public company. They need to play a neutral alignment game to survive. They must stay aligned with whoever is in power without going so far that the next administration becomes an enemy. If this entire reading is correct, Aster has the potential to become one of my biggest trades this season and possibly one of my top 10 ever. Time will tell. Now the bearish side. VOOI exists. VOOI is also backed by YZiLabs and it competes directly with Aster. If CZ wants optionality, he will support VOOI at/prior to TGE. That would hit Aster hard because it would signal that he has not yet chosen a single path. I do not think CZ has the same level of control over VOOI as he does with Aster. VOOI raised through Echo and I doubt he would greenlight that, but this is guesswork. The probability of CZ supporting VOOI is low in my view, but not low enough for me to ignore. It is also not low enough for me to avoid thinking about how to hedge this risk. We shall see.
